Music and Film

Southwark has grown and inspired many musicians through the years, from Victorian music hall stars such as Jenny Hill to grime artists such as Ms Banks.

Local film makers Jide Adetunji and Ibrahim Kamara from GUAP International were engaged as part of our bid development process. Their film is an exploration of the ideas that came out of our conversations with the community.

Jide and Ibrahim continued to think about how becoming London Borough of Culture would impact on Southwark, talking to friends, family and the wider community to illustrate why our bid is important for Southwark today.

We have gathered together a few homegrown tunes for you to enjoy:

Rina Mushonga’s ‘AtalantA’ video takes us on a tour of the Peckham she knows and loves, showing its diversity and energy.

London College Communication MA Animation students worked in collaboration with the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance and the Cuming Museum to produce twelve short animations inspired by items from the Cuming collection. You can see the whole collection on vimeo.
